Re: Tranquility |
Where is it? It has a nice feel to it, I'm also very glad to see it worked out that the sky didn't try to creep in. That's one of the hardest things I find when trying to get these photos from the angles I really want. Not every creek or stream lets me get away with the angles I want.
It seems green to me, is it just me (could be the screen on this laptop too but I don't think it is)?

Wow, very nice!
I love long exposures with water.
The greens are very green, but I think they are kept within reason.

I own this joint!

yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is a gift, that's why it's called the present.

Re: Tranquility |
Thank you, both.
Emorphien, its about 3 miles up a trail in the Columbia River Gorge in NW Oregon, if you'd like more specifics I'd be happy to share.
Also, thanks for noticing on the sky, I pride myself on keeping overexposed, random sky patches out of my images. Actually, I pride myself on not having anything overexposed, period.

A skill that is hard learned.Originally Posted by Stime187
I agree with Ben and emorphien that it looks green. Almost electric green. But that is what I like about it. How much saturation did you boost in PP?

Re: Tranquility |
I'm actually not sure, I work on the color of certain sections as I go with an image like this. Some portions, I actually backed off the saturation and in others it was boosted considerably. Probably the widest range was -5 or 6 in places and +10 or 12 in others, all depends. I work more on the hues than the actual saturation amounts. And believe it or not, I still feel the scene was more vibrantly green than this... I just can't seem to hone in on it in PS, which sucks since my intention, as always, is to replicate the actual scene as I witnessed it.Originally Posted by tardypizza

Then all I have to say is WOW. This pic is vibrant and lively already, I can't imagine how it would look if it represented exactly how you saw it. If you grabbed that much green without any PP then you have much more skill than I.Originally Posted by Stime187

Bump!
Awesome as usual, Scott! Not surprised you were shooting this well when you joined the site.

Hmm... on a new (better) monitor, the colors are a bit off. It's too green. The actual scene was a richer, slightly subdued (but still very vibrant) green. This is one of the one's on my list to re-process with the new setup.

Damn, I can never get the greens to turn out natural like that

Greens are by FAR the hardest color to get right...

the greens look good on my lappy, but they're obviously no match for scooter's macky!

Yeah a lot of laptops have pretty crappy screens. I trust my 15" Thinkpad, but the screen on my 12" isn't as good (and too small to really do much on).

Columbia River Gorge shots always have a popping green color that i have never seen That characteristic draws me to that location.
I swear I saw this image with that exact same story of backpacking and taking a nap at least a year ago. Am I right on that or just imagining things? I usually don't forget images.

Interesting thomps. There are a few places where the light and scenery really draw me. The Pacific NW being one, the other being greenland/iceland (I can't remember which so it might as well be both).

The Pacific NW is a landscape photographer's dream. I absolutely love that area, I can't wait to be back there this summer.
