havnt updated this in a few weeks, my best friend is getting married and ive been busy with the wedding
just bought my 99 spec wing, prob the most expensive exterior piece im buying
its unmounted and at the lowest settingi just wanted to test fit
looks sexy
99 spec wing and tails oh yea
completed the interior. remember the rear bins i glued together? thats it there
it looks nice with interior, it was all gutted out behind the seats when i bought it
the rear floor was also painted with a wheel paint black for durability. looks better than the silver with chizzled off sound deadening glue
She's coming together beautifully, great job.
How much was the wing?
thanks! new its 1500+shipping, i bought it used for 750 picked up. the replicas are 500 but not adjustable
Eesh... Any ideas on what color you are going to go with it? When does the real fun start?
color is up in the air, black, dark deep blue, bright yellow, small flake dark silver, red, im favoring the dark silver currently.
right now im doing most of the wiring, the conversion kit will be ordered next month (november) and will take 2-3 weeks, maybe 4 with the holiday to arrive.
trying to get it swap ready before the end of the year, when taxes come ill pick up the motor. after that i gotta buy a 1200$ cold air/radiator kit and tires. then i gotta spend close to 2k for custom headers, 3 cats and a custom catback and pass california emissions which isnt easy
ive got 1500 a month for the budget of this but the holiday season is coming up, i get 4k in taxes in feb so the idea is to have it running and registered by early march, painted over the summer, wheels and full suspension in the fall. so yea, this threads gunna be around for awhile lol

holy ****. 1500 for a wing?![]()
The hardest thing is rendering a moment moving too fast to endure.
well, 1300
http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/99%20rear%20wing.htm
but yea, the 99 spec stuff aint cheap for some reason, even at the used price its pricey for me, but i didnt wanna pass it up
hopefully i can cannibalize a vette, there are not many v8 rx7s in california, of those that i can find most of them either have not BARed the swap, havnt needed to smog under the new swap yet, or got smog certs illegally. ive heard so and so friend of a friend has passed easily. but nothing is documented on exactly how they did it. i know that the vetts y pipe has the cats in it and it will not fit on the rx7, and that the vendored ls1 rx7 y pipes have high flowing cats that will not pass in CA. itll be easy to just buy a smog cert but i want that BAR sticker, i see it as a get out of jail pass lol
yea i think ima go with the dark silver, its pretty oem to the 99 spec also
hope to look like this when im done, i need that front bumper, those turn lights up front, and that fron lip, each is about 500$, meh...
i also maybe want to throw on these FEED side fenders for a more modern look. feed is like spoon for honda or prodrive for subarus so i think its a tasteful consideration rather than tacky/ricey
just the front fenders tho not the front bumper, the only reason i debate it is cause it makes the front end wider, itll force me to run a non staggered setup, that might not be such a bad idea
heres a pic for width illustration

Oh yes!!! Hot ****!!!
I don't really have any pics of the evo... I wasn't shooting digi at the time and know where my photos are. Chris might have some??

just ordered my v8 rx7 kit. it includes an engine sub frame, diff sub frame, trans mount. i also ordered bump steer correction kit. this is suppose to be the best shelf kit money can buy. it takes 2 weeks for them to make it and ship it, though delays have been reported. i hope i get it within a month.
kit, one of the few subframes that allow you to fit a v8 without hood modification, taking a sledge hammer to the trans mission tunnel, and doesnt make the oil pan the lowest point under the car. maintains 50/50 weight ratio and better than stock suspension geometry. it is however $$, 600$ more than the rest =(
bump steer correction, negates issues with lowering the steering rack to accommodate the taller V8
more suspension range over stock
trans mount, allows you to run dual exhaust or a y pipe with cats (best clearance)
the only vendor to have this diff subframe, only one to guarantee no wheel hop at 600tq, the rest break traction at 450tq
cant wait for the ups man to deliver mine and slap it on the car
just noticed a still need a custom length drive shaft. ill weigh out the options of steel, aluminuminum or cf and order it when i rebuild some funds lol
i just ordered those pieces i havnt received them yet, as for the car i completed the interior, painted the engine bay, relocated the battery, and rewired the car as much as i could. i also did the fuel line. once the pieces that i ordered come in ill take pics of them and document the install process
that the granny speed shop kit?
BTW they grey will look HAWT!
-Tim B
naw this is grannys, mine is samberg rod and custom
the only thing i like about that kit is it has a drive shaft.
the top triangle piece is a torque arm, samberg one uses a diff subframe, that arm still twists.
that trans subframe bolts vertical rather than horizontal, those bolt holes in grannys are existing bolt holes that hold heat shield. its also lower so you have to bend your headers to clear it.
it comes with engine mount adapter plates, because the subframe misses the engine mount location, rather than rebuilding he slides the mounts over to the front 3 inches using a plate.
there was a 300 page thread where samberg lays out emails recipts and video that HE designed the grannys kit and went to the granny guy to help him build it. 20k later, 2 donation cars and 4 years samberg never saw a final product. granny never gave samberg a cent or a product, but patented sambergs idea and went public. because he didnt design it he couldnt rebuild the flaws. the only part of his design was the adapter plates which is just a 3inch square with 3 drill holes in it.
the thread got deleted because 3 years after the incident the thing finally went to court, and hes not allowed to discuss the details untill after the lawsuit.

Wild I never knew that.
we put a granny kit on a FC a few years back
-Tim B
yea i woulda never guessed myself. i use to be sold on grannys, they are really helpful and got great customer service even though im not a customer lol. they have the best (only) write ups also. i think they made all the other kits its just the FD one that is not their design. since they were good at making rx7 parts samberg went to them. i might buy their drive shaft if its compatible with my kit, i dont see why it wouldnt
do you still have the FC? pics? id love to hear some testimonial on the swap =)
Looks sick dude. I can't wait to see photos when you get the parts.
Unfortunately no was a military friend's car and he sold it about a year ago I guess I think its in texas now.
Don't have any pics online but I will dig thru my computer tonight and see if I have any still.
it was a nicely built kit (as you said customer service was great) and they even had to re-ship us one part because the powder coating was comming off. (which they did without any argument)
it was White TURBO II shell drivetrane/brakes/suspension with a LS1 (out of a 1998 camaro)
-Tim B
thats pretty awesome, yea thats another + for grannys kit, powder coatits the best bang kit, if it wasnt for the torque arm and adapter plates id buy it, but if i had an FC id have no hesitation to get a grannys
its been rainy, ive been picking at what i can while im waiting for my subframes to come
did some electrical work
battery relocated to the rear bins
gauge cluster works
tails work
gotta relocate this box, not sure where yet
-6AN fuel line installed
meanwhile my subframe guy sent me progress pics of the subframe
welds look good so far

damn man, that guys running a sick deal
The hardest thing is rendering a moment moving too fast to endure.
the subframe guy? yea these v8rx7 kit vendors have some really stellar customer service
that's awesome. will the trunk being located there be a problem come inspection time, or do they not check that?
Things are looking great!
I love those fenders, it makes the front look MEAN.
I really like that dark silver you mentioned, I also love the rx7 in a flat white. Ever seen one with a real deep green with some kind of fleck in it?
battery in an enclosed, unvented space = no no.
note: i do not know if that bin is unvented or not...
dunno. but, he's in california, so it wouldn't surprise me at all
thats a good point im not sure, its unvented but what if i left the door off? then its vented?if not then i can get a dry cell, i know you can run a dry cell in place of the spare tire and covered legally. worst case ill buy a braille battery and mount it in place of an oil cooler. the rx7 came stock with 2 in the front. im pretty sure it would mount there for a temporary job.
do i have to be 17 to get it? cause i dont get it lol
making room for the new parts, all this gotta go
found bent end links, looks like i need to beef up this area
subframe out, now its looking like theres some good ol V8 room
not sure if i need to remove the control arms, those castle nuts are hell to remove
so im ready for the subframe and bump steer kit, i gotta find out whats needed to do for the rear diff before the kit comes in

in a school zone?
so how long are you thinking until this is drivable Marcus? Seems like a TON of work, but should be a rad car once it's done.
I own this joint!
gear list.
yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is a gift, that's why it's called the present.
Hopefully ill have it running around Feb. I’m knocking out all the mandatory stuff for the swap before taxes, and then picking up a motor/trans/ecu with my return. After that it’ll be drivable, but I should have all the suspension/paint and wheels by the end of summer.
Its easy to forecast and make a budget since I just substitute my old car payment into a budget expense, but the only bump in the road I see is whatever problems I might have with the motor. Hopefully there is no problems but it helps to be prepared.
not to sound like a dick, but do i really know you? i have zero recollection lol
