Crap... the hatfields and McCoys have more teeth than this gear set...
Bell housing cleaned..might as well get te case cleaned up and find some better internals later.

They are getting canned...I am getting internals from another transmission ..fortunately 240's/Maxima/Frontiers/harbodys all share the same gear set just different bell housings so should be to hard to find one in good shape.Originally Posted by danm

LOL nah the car was sitting in a field where the tranny had already been pulled and sitting beside the car with no plug in the shifter hole so it had 3 years of rain water sitting in it.
when we picked it up and a bunch of rust water poured out we pretty much figured it was going to need new gears anyway...so I will find some fresher ones or get a rebuild kit.

Not yet. I'm just accumulating parts for now. It's coming though. Been watching yours; awesome! I've always been a rotary fan, so I hated to hear about an LS1 swap, but really it makes sense when you look at the cost of rebuilding a rotary vs. swapping the LS1. I'd love to go for a ride once it's done.
The more I see Tim's build, the more I'm thinking of going VG30. vg30.com has a real nice kit that doesn't involve flipping the crossmember like the KA/SR swaps do. Also, after watching a few youtube videos, I'm in love with the sound.
Living in the desert, it gets cool at night, and it's so dry I can use a portable swamp cooler, so the summer is the best time in the garage for me.
Tim, do you still have access to that Z31 parts car? I'm in the market for some four lug Z31 front hubs.
Also, I don't know if you've found a good source for NOS parts or not, but I've used these 2 sites in conjunction to get almost everything I need down the each factory nut/bolt: http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun...n510Index.aspx and http://www.nissanpartszone.com/ Just copy the part number from the 510 diagram, and plug it into the search on the other site, and bingo! I made an order for some suspension bolts and washers, and a fuel pump block off from a z20e last night, and they had every part I needed.

Friend of mine that builds 510's just totalled his and called and made me and offer to buy mine ( good offer) so I took him up on it.
He picks it up tonight.
and now I have some space in the garage...maybe for a new project.

Sad to see it go, you put a lot of work into it. I would also like to know what you sold your project for for my future reference, and if you have any parts leftover. I'm contemplating a rally car build from a nice shell available locally. That vg would have made it a fast car with lotsa torque! in any case i hope you did well on it. any thoughts on your next project? RB or LS1 powered 240z?

I didn't do to bad on the car
we bought it originally for $300
Paint, Suspension, Primer, other after market parts lights etc.. Misc Materials $700
240Z parts car $100
Z31 Parts car Free $50 Tow
Towed the 510 from two moves $100
Total $1250
so pretty much cost me $1500 fo a fun car to tinker with and most importantly teach my then girlfriend Now wife how to work on cars.
sold 2500
1000 profit.
which is going to buy wheels for the Z or may look into selling the Z also and combine the money and find an old Porsche project car (which I have always wanted to do)
still deciding what to do with the money. I am sure some will buy camera gear cause I want to get some extra batterys, memory cards etc..

Sad to see it go, it was making good progress. I've seen tons of projects seize since I've started. Many have gave up, tapped out, ran out of funds or lost interest. Hopefully you get another started soon!
