Re: My first attempt at wedding photography . . . |
Your pics look odd to me, it's like their contrast was reduced, and they were slightly desaturated. The EXIF says Nikon D200, which I thought was supposed to be a pretty good camera, so I'm curious where the odd look comes from. Lens? PP?
Was the "official" photog getting paid? What was she shooting with? It looks tiny, like maybe an XTi, or even smaller.

Re: My first attempt at wedding photography . . . |
I think that's the fault of Windows Picture Resizer. The original JPGs look quite vibrant, IMO. Any suggestions on how to get around this? It could be my glass, too: I was just shooting with a Nikon 28-70 4.5-5.6.Originally Posted by mkfotos
I don't think the official photographer was getting paid - I think she was just the "designated" photographer. And yeah, I think it was an XTi.

What a colorful and vibrant wedding! With some proper PP you will have some great shots. How many shots did you take? As it is, you've captured some great moments.

I took close to 300 shots, total. I'm not even sure where to start with PP - crop, contrast, saturation/levels, maybe?Originally Posted by tardypizza

Here's a quick two minute go at one of your pics:

Re: My first attempt at wedding photography . . . |
Do you have any version of Photo Shop? The EXIF file dosn't show the pictures as being edited with it. I would adjust levels, contrast, may be adjust in selective color but probably stay away from saturation then crop if needed resize then sharpen for the web.Originally Posted by banman
You have some real nice shots there, they just need some adjusting. If you don't have Photo Shop you could email me a few to edit for you.

Re: My first attempt at wedding photography . . . |
I've got Photoshop on the wife's laptop. I think I'll try working with the originals on there; Windows photo resizer really seems to butcher the sharpness and mute the colors on these shots.Originally Posted by porschewrx

If you want, when I get home, I'll email you a quick and dirty PS action for web-resizing and adding "pop". Set it up as a batch run and then look at the final pics to see if you like the result. If not, go back and tweak.

Re: My first attempt at wedding photography . . . |
I do think that something messed up the pics you posted up. Too little bit depth, too much compression, etc.
Not sure what Nikon has for batch picture processing, but Canon has something called Digital Photo Professional (DPP for short). It's a quick way to modify lost of pics at once, like Bridge, ACDsee, Lightroom, etc. One of these batch programs should be part of your workflow.

composition on a few of them are good, colors are a bit off for me on some of them.
Im trying to figure out what the "photographer" was using, it def. is not an XT or XTi. Maybe an Olympus or Fuji?

I could be wrong about it being an XTi, but I'm almost positive it was a Canon SLR of some type. I'll look through my other pics to confirm.
Tardypizza, can you send me your PS tips?

Re: My first attempt at wedding photography . . . |
Right, but if you look at the photo of the "photographer" You can see the back of the camera, There are no Function buttons to the left of the LCD, the XT and XTi have 5 with clear labels for each. could be a canon, just not an XT or XTi. Just curious to find out what camera was actually used.Originally Posted by mkfotos

Re: My first attempt at wedding photography . . . |
I've shot several weddings with d200 and 18-70, and those images don't look quite right to me. the colors are off and I'm guessing the resizing had created some strange distortions. Otherwise they're pretty good. a fill flash would be good on sunny backlit shots.

yeah agreed.
You have some good compositions there, but the JPEG compression and colors are a bit funky.
