    Default  Narragansett beach:

Went down to the beach last night to try to surf. The report said I should have 5~6' waves, but they were a little more than 1' when I got there. There were about 10 other surfers in the lot watching the awesome sunset. A few others were out anyway...

I grabbed my photo gear and caught these instead:

The first one is 7048 X 2863 (20.18mp!), the second 2 are 5575 X 4344 (24.22mp!) once merged, but I cropped them to my preferred 3:2 yielding 5575 X 3717 (20.72mp!) images. Can't wait to see how they look printed.

All 3 were shot with my 45mm TS-E on my 5D and stitched using CS3's photomerge (finally a good stitching program in PS!).
    I own this joint!

shopping I guess.... If we sell the 830, I'll have serious money to spend... The Melges20 site went back up today, so I'm really hoping they have something on it there.... I really don't want to have to go to the Annapolis show.

Great shots Ben, and more to the point great PS work seamlessly stitched. Maybe you can do a write up on how you did it.
It must have been fairly bright out still as I see you were shooting at 50 ISO and f22 to get a 1.5" shutter speed on the second shot (my favorite).

yeah, the sun was still up behind the dunes behind me... I wanted the slowest shutter speeds I could get for the water to blur, otherwise it's a PITA to stitch them... With TS-Es the shots line up perfectly anywhere there is no movement, so it's just a matter of fixing the water... With shutter speeds >1 second it tends to be easier. For anything not shot with a TS-E I used to use panorama factory, then I'd have to clone the crap out of it... These were done with the 45mm TS-E so it should stitch easy with some work in the water, but I just pointed CS3 at them and it's flawless, even at 100%... The weird part is that when you do it to layers, then try to crop the image you get weird seems that show up. So I had to flatten it before I cropped....

I'll have to try some "real" panos with a normal lens in PS:CS3. I have some old ones around here anyway... I used to use panorama factory which was OK, but I'd have to clone parts, even with a hand done stitch. I'll do a set in both PF and CS3 with the same images and work up a tutorial and see how it looks though.

CS3s photomerge is improved, but still not great.

    Ben--

Love the colors/tones in all the photos, but I find the straight edge in the water towards the left of the bottom 1/3 of photo #3 distracting. I know that these photos are stitched--is there anyway to soften that or blur it so that it still looks natural? If not, no biggie--I don't know that anyone would notice.

Seams on the other two are virtually invisible. Good work!

Photo 3 has two edges, one 1/3 in from the left and one 1/3 in from the right. Looks like the surf was at different places during each photo.

Good eye emo. Yes there are visible seems in both #2 and #3 (and #1 but only if you open it in PS and turn one frame on and off to see it). I'll have to play around with #3 a bit and fix it as now that it's been pointed out it is quite obvious. #2 is a little less so because it could be real (it's not).
