    Default  NCAA Baseball Regionals

Baseball + 40 minute lightning delay + six pack + FSU scoring 16 runs + game lasting until 12:15am EST = whipping Tulane in the 7th game of our regionals.

Too bad I'll be out of town for the Super Regionals against Wichita State.

I was shooting next to some local news photogs. The guy right next to me had two 1Ds, one with a 300 2.8 L, and the other with a 70-200 2.8 L I had a little lens envy, but felt great when he loved my pictures.

Many of these were shot at ISO 1600 once the sun went down. The in camera NR did alright. I shot until I got some crap on my lens, but then the lightning delay started so I put the camera up in the car, had some beers, and finished out the game on Tuesday.

here are a few. more on my flickr

Buster Posey, amazing athelete and student. Hit four home runs Sunday. Has played every position this season, including pitcher

    Three coming in

not a great pic, but I love the fact that I captured this bumbling error

Also FSU football was practicing behind the baseball stadium. Thats Drew Weatherford, FSU QB.

actually that was the pitcher attempting to tag him out, unsuccessfully. I believe there was a wild pitch (Tulane had tons this weekend) and the catcher had to run to the backstop for the ball.

I really like the umpire in that shot.

It definately made me realize that I need faster glass to shoot a night baseball game. Even with the lights I was maxed at f/5 and ISO 1600 and still was not getting great shutter speeds or bright pictures.

A f/2.8 or usable ISO 3200 would have been nice.

one downfall of the 450D is max ISO 1600 Still the 1600 looks great even with in camera NR. Most of the above shots were all at 1600 w/o noise ninja or any PP NR.

    that's probably a result of squeezing in 12mp on a 1.6...

Thanks Marisa. Made me feel good when I looked at the local paper's website this morning and my pictures blows theirs out of the water. It looks like they took a picture of the TV image. wtf?

Ben, NONE of the XXXD line has 3200 ISO

whoops, sorry. I thought they had 3200 and a H at some point, my bad.
You're not missing much on a 1.6 sensor though. Especially not with 12mp on it.

I dunno 1600 on the 450D looks as good, if not better than, 1600 on the 40D. Check it out about 1/4 - 1/3 down the page: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ra-Review.aspx

I'd call them a draw personally.

And I'm just saying, I wouldn't use 3200 on my 40D, so not having it isn't a huge loss on the XSi IMHO... You can also just shoot at -1EV in camera (and use RAWs, not needed but it will help tons) then bump all the shots up to +1EV in ACR for the same effect if you truly need it. That's all the 'H' setting is really doing on the cameras that have it.

    check these out:

it's easier to see the issues on the solid gray (but doesn't show IRL examples). Id' call them pretty close there too. Interesting as I would have thought the extra MP in the same space would make it worse. Good to know they're improving their PP in camera enough it's not a huge issue.

Regardless you got great shots using 1600 with the camera you own and that's all that really matters.
