Default  1st Post. Need help Cropping/Chopping this photo.

My wife and I had a small wedding ceremony last week. We had a professional photographer there for family and ceremony photos. I'm by far a novice photographer although I would like to get better as well as my wife.

On the way out the sun was setting and the sillohuette of this tree seemed perfect. I ran up the hill and my wife framed it and set the timer. we had our daughter snap the picture once in position. Taken on a D40x with the kit lens.

We both love how the photo turned out. Really wish we had taken it in RAW. I like it as is, maybe with a slight crop. My wife likes it cropped down to the single tree with the horizon rotated to level.

Any hints suggestions? I'm open to your edits. This is something we would like to have canvas wrapped and hung on our wall.

Thanks your help is greatly appreciated.

OMG LOVE THE SHOT. I'll post up how I'd crop it in just a second, but I wanted to tell you what a great idea that was!

Okay, the quality on this sucks because I had to upsize a heavy crop from your small jpeg, but it's enough to get the idea:

i think that will be problem with the image. just not large enough to get quality out of a tight crop.

i like that crop, but also like the feeling of elevation with the hill in the photo. thanks for your input.

I'd straighten the horizon on the original and leave it.

Here, I used PS to Free Transform and then sort of bent the image into shape, rather than solely cropping. That may be crossing into "digital art" territory, but I'd thought I'd give it a whack. Very nice shot, by the way.

love the original. This image could also be converted to a vector easy enough and you could scale it to be massive.
    I own this joint!

This would be my crop: (you have plenty of file in the original file to crop to this and make a nice print)

is there an easier method than using the pen tool? cause if you had to pen tool all those tree branches that would not be easy by any means

Or just get me the full size and I'll do it for you via Illustrator CS3.

Works better than PS any day of the week.

stime's crop is about where i had it...and to those that asked, no PP was done on this photo.

pretty amazed at how it came out. given the camera was propped up on the hood of my running car with a sweatshirt.

thanks for the input everyone. i'll pass the comments along to my wife.

Too late? I'd crop the big tree more, leave the little tree almost full, and take out the over bearing one to the right completely... then blend the sky a bit more... and a little rotation, but still show it's a hill.

And I'm a sucker for leg lifts.... Hope you don't mind...

Yeah, OK, I may have overdone it...

Don't leave it as is, get it printed and frame it. that shot is perfect.

I don't get how/why you used the timer and had your daughter take the photo?
