    Can anyone do a contrasty BW? I can't seem to get it right.

    I used the Black and White filter in Photoshop CS3. Played with the slider, especially the yellow until i got the tones I wanted, then I used the brightness/contrast filter and added about +85% contrast. Lastly I dodged the midtones in her eyes at 20% added a vignette and cropped slightly from the left side to remove the white blob.

    started to get really noisy on me. I gave up. this is where I got after 5 min.

    The reason you can't get it quite right is because your lighting wasn't very contrasty, so any attempts to make the image really contrasty will inevitably result in lots of noise. there's also not much contrast in color. with those two things in mind, i think sevendhappy still did a pretty nice job.

    I thought Shawn's was the best, but it's not as "high contrast" as some of the others.
