Default  Iguazu Falls (Argentina & Brazil)

Famous waterfall(s) on the border of Argentina and Brazil.

After a 19 hour bus ride from Buenos Aires you arrive in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. This is the edge of town, looking across the water at Brazil on the right and Paraguay on the left.

Welcome to Parque Nacional Iguazu. Standing in Argentina, that's Brazil on the right. The mouth of the falls is about 20 feet behind me.

There's an excellent trail system throughout the park. There's even a train on the Argentina side to get out to the mouth of the falls.

You can take boat rides into the falls.

This shot is taken from the Argentina side of the park. That's an island (part of Argentina) on the right and those falls are in Brazil.

The park is absolutely swarming with butterflies. It's cute for about 2 minutes until you've got 30 of them climbing all over you.

    On the Brazil side now.

That's about the extent of my Spanish skills. They're failing fast, but I remember the important stuff.

I was born in Foz do Iguacu, the city in the brazillian side so I used to go there when I was a kid, did you get to see the Itaipu dam? it's the largest hydroelectric powerplant in the world, located between brazil and paraguay, just a few minutes ride from the falls, lot's of things to see down there, hope you had fun

No, didn't get to see anything else on the Brazil side. Just did the tourist thing: hopped the border illegally, ran around the park for 3 hours, then jumped back into Argentina. Wish we could have spent more time in the area and seen other stuff, but we had a pretty tight 2 week schedule.

Beautiful shots of the falls. I have some on one of the pages of my flickr (http://flickr.com/photos/toastwithbanana). Sorry about the bus ride though, mi novia y yo took a plane

I was afraid to go to the Brazilian side (without a visa)... how did that work out?

Super easy. You just pay a cabbie $30 US and they take care of it. I think they have some deal with the border patrol. Our hostel told us about it so we figured it was legit; didn't have any problems.
