    Default  Zion National Park

Went for Spring Break, last week of March. Anytime before Memorial Day is a great time to go as the weather is not unbearably hot. Also, after early April (7th? maybe?), the shuttles are running again which is nice.

    Must do hikes:

Angels Landing... 2.5 to the top, last .5 is along side a chain. Pretty grueling hike, but if your relatively in shape, you'll be fine. To reach the summit you will be walking along some pretty serious cliffs, with about 2'-3' of walkway. Do this the first day you get there, it is one of the hardest hikes at Zion, so everything else will feel super easy after.

Angels landing from the Virgin River:

    Part of the chain:

    Spine to the summit:

View from the summit (or close to it):

Weeping rock is pretty easy, takes about 15 minutes to do.

And finally, Emerald Pools - Easy hike, good photo ops. Windy this day, not sure what the falls look like with no wind.

    Falls at Upper Pool:

    Runoff:

Middle Pool overlooking Lower Pool (not seen):

Other notables... The Subway... Couldn't go this trip due to the lack of climbing gear, but it is definitely high on the list, and something you should do if you have the capability.

    amazing shots!

We've been to zion once and loved it. We also both wish we had more time (we were there one overnight, so noon to noonish) and we will definately be back. It's one of our favorite parks.

so if the shuttles start in april and you were there the end of march, does that mean you actually got to drive around then? Plus, how crowded was it w/o the buses with everyone driving? (I've only ever been with the buses running, waiting for them kinda sucks, but it's also very nice to not have to park AT ALL).

here are the only 4 I have scanned from our trip there (this was fall 2000 all on film):

    Good stuff Ben!

Yeah, you're allow to drive up to the trailheads, and it does get a bit crowded. We ended up parking along the road in most cases. Not bad at all though, crowd levels closer to a state park. Once your on the trail, you might see someone every 10-20 minutes.

Plane tickets are super cheap right now, I wish I could afford to go back after this quarter!

Nice shots all around. Zion is amazing place.

Especially like the spine shot heading up to Angel's Landing. Gives a good sense of just how awesome that little hike is. I did it twice in two days while I was there, too damn cool. I consider it easily one of the top 5 hikes in the lower 48.
