Have you been up to Harper's Ferry? I know it's not exactly Northern VA, but it might be worth the drive. I've never had a camera when I've been there and have thought it would be a great place to shoot.

Hmm... after exploring it on Flickr, I may have to check it out. It's a bit far from me though (I'm in Manassas).

Tried any of the Appalachian Trail? Runs right through NOVA. Or try going up to the Blue Ridge Parkway in the mornings, great oppritunities for Landscape stuff up there. Some of the best vistas on the east coast.

Granted the Blue Ridges are in NC and VA, but you could probably do in a weekend.
Man you have a great state to shoot in, just a google search away.
