    Default  New England in July

So, Kris and I are headed out to NEFR in July (17-19th), and will be doing some road tripping to/from as well as around the area.

I'm looking for ideas on what to hit/not hit. Here's the definite list so far:

    -NEFR
-Niagra Falls (either on the way out or back, Kris hasn't seen it before)
-Acadia NP (how long should we stay there? is there good backpacking? we'll probably climb cadillac mtn one day)

    Possibilities:
Canada - NS, NB, Bay of Fundy, etc
    Boston?
    RI
    Other states

    Anything else we shouldn't miss?

I would love to hit up NS some time. Look at Shaun Lowe's work from that area.

^ whoa, that link is pretty amazing!

but yeah, it all depends on where you guys want to go Jay. They whole coast has nice scenery, you just need to know where to find it. As for Acadia, I wouldn't say there's good backpacking, but there's great day hiking. You can drive up the mountain or just hike it. I'd drive for a sunrise (first place the sun hits in the US depending on the time of year) then hike it later? They also have killer bike paths there as well. There's great backpacking in ME, just not really IN acadia.

and maybe it's just me (Nikki also wants to see it) but Niagara is pretty forgettable. As in if it meant that or a day someplace else, I'd skip it... Unless it's on your way?

oh, and I'm pretty sure that's the ALMS weekend?

Yeah, he is a helluva photographer. Young guy, self tought, started with a point and shoot, moved up to DSLR. I think he Now works for one of the big micro stock agencies amongst doing his own thing.

He was a member on The first forum I joined when I started out taking pictures was www.phototakers.com

Unfortunately that forum is basically dead now. I learned a lot there.

Niagra would be a "on the way" type thing so no biggie. I don't think we'd spend more than 4-5hrs there. I've been about 5x with the family and although its really cool its only cool for a while.

I'm thinking what I'm going to try for is a day or two in Acadia, then drive up and hit canada hard to see as much as we can up there. I'd love this to be a photo trip and I will get to take photos, but mostly it'll be something for her and I to just enjoy ourselves out there. That said, I would pretty likely try for sunrise everyday and hopefully sunset.

Ben, I think NEFR is the same weekend as your limerock thing, yes.

I think Kris' ideal trip would be backpacking like a week with not much driving, mine would probably be to road trip all over the place.

oh, dude, hit up Fundy in Canada (instead of the ferry to NS, drive around, it's the west side of that bay). Great camping/hiking there. Not sure how much "backpacking" they offer (we car camped) but they have some awesome trails. I think they have one that's 10~15 miles along the coast though that is proper backpacking? It was the last day of our crazy road trip so we were a bit burned out by then, but I remember really liking the coast there (20'+ tides!).

I'm going to start laying out an itinerary pretty soon for this, should be sweet.

I talked with Kris yesterday and told her that I realize she's more wanting to stay one place and backpack or whatever, and I'm more wanting to cover more ground. She seems ok with covering more ground.

Also, she's wanting to go the the island at Acadia that you pay for, is that worth the trip or is it just more of the same type of stuff we'll see all the way up the coast?

Having been to G on your map, in the very least, loop that peninsula (ie drive both coasts). But I'd probably suggest doing more in Nova Scotia and skipping Cape Brenton. (we did cape brenton and it was only OK, I wish we'd spent more time on Nova Scotia)

That part of the trip is mostly a "go around in that area" thing - I would like to loop the peninsula you're talking about and possibly loop NS. I've been up there before too and its pretty cool. Its tough to decide where to spend time and where to make time by driving, know what I mean?
