Default  Esteros del Ibera : Argentine Wetlands

Gazillion acre wetland area in Corrientes Province. Over 300 species of birds and lots of other critters. I'm not usually into the wildlife stuff (zoos have a way of bumming you out) but this was super cool being in the middle of their environment.

Spent a couple days here ... it's in the middle of f-ing nowhere (a 4 hour jeep ride from Posadas), but that happily means no other tourists.

Wow, great photos--the caiman photos made me go:

I'd love to go somewhere like that--though I'd stay away from the gators!

Most are afraid of the shutter noise! Well, except for that first guy ... he just stared and made a hissing/growl sound. "back the canoe away please, he can smell that I just soiled myself."

Nice shots. The last two are awesome.

Is that a fence or someone's arm in the last shot?

Without paying much attention I figured it was a mud puddle, but now that I see it in Firefox it looks awfully blurry. I took another look at the original and I still have no clue. There was a 2 foot stone wall, but I think I was standing on it. Lens hood was on so it can't be a finger. Hmm, I have no idea ... can't remember all the way back to March

Thanks. These really confirm the image quality of the 18-135 kit lens IMO. So far it's the sharpest lens I've used (even better than the nifty fifty). Granted, its distortion is horrendous, but its sharpness is awesome.

This was actually my second trip with the D80. (well, I was living abroad the whole time, but this was the 2nd 2 week excursion somewhere) I'd owned the camera (my first dslr) for less than 3 months ... I was just pointing and shooting. Mostly in aperture priority mode. I was lucky to have such a sharp lens ... I'd be heart broken if I didn't capture anything from Ibera.

Great shots! I wasn't able to make it to that area when I was in Argentina, there had been a lot of rain and flooding, but that had been on the itinerary. Most of my time was spent in the northwest area in the foothills of the foothills of the Andes. Up around Tucuman, Salta, Jujuy. At the time (about 10 years ago) I only had a POS point and shoot film camera. Some of the pictures actually turned out pretty good though. If I can ever find the plug that goes to my scanner I'll post em up.

This is easily my favorite. I've never seen any conditions like that with the rain just pouring and being so clearly visible.

Super cool. I never made it up to the northwest (Salta/Jujuy). That chunk of the country is still to be explored ... been all around it though! (chile & bolivia, skipped Paraguay).

Great pictures! You have definitely inspired me to go there this summer.
    Any tips?

Pack extra food! Seriously, the tiny little town you stay in sort of has a convenience store that is open whenever it's convenient for them. which is never.
