All of the shots in this thread will be from in and around an abandoned viscose factory in Roanoke, VA. They used to make rayon stockings at this place, before it was shut down and abandoned in the 1970s. I drive past it daily on my way home, on a shortcut through an old industrial area of town.

Anyway, I plan to use this thread as an ongoing study of a single major subject in order to get feedback and learn some technique. Any help that you fine folks can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    This is the factory:

there's definitely something crazy going on with the sky in the first one--and I don't mean that in a good way. Cool photo otherwise, tho.

The no GOP shot is good, the others seem more exposed for the sky as opposed to the subject.

My laptop's weird display gamma threw me off. I'm going to re-do these properly.

Hey I changed your thread title a bit to show the state/country and match the rest of the posts in this forum.

I fixed the three photos, more or less. Quick and dirty in PS, they could use more work.

Damn, the original shots were ugly. A a laptop screen is really no way to edit photos.

^ +1... These factories look a lot like the old Tobacco factories/warehouses in NC.

Right around the corner from the factory, a dead trainyard. The rails into and out of this spur yard have long since deteriorated.

It's in Southeast... the area they call Riverdale. Between Garden City and Vinton. It's sort of the "armpit" of town.

I guess I should show off the beautiful parts of town, too.

    Are you local?

Yeah, I was at the get together at the Deli Shoppe awhile back. And I'm 2.5GTlegacy on Nasioc.

Looks like a fun place to shoot, dunno how it turn out in black and white...since I still have a film camera (Canon Rebel T2)

Hey man, nice to see you here! Small world.

Maybe we should both take shots there and get multiple perspectives on it. Maybe a Roanoke photo outing sometime? We could even do some co-operative projects around downtown or something.

Hey, newbies unite. I haven't done any creative photography in years, which is why I started this thread... dust off the cobwebs and limber up a bit, as well as get some critiques from the experts around here.

I love photography, just not good at taking pictures ..so a film camera is a good start for me. Although I would love to have the Canon Rebel Xti ..I hate developing film and then see the aftermath of my horrible exposures
