Default  Devil's Lake State Park, Baraboo, WI, USA

I went camping this Sat/Sun with my wife at Devil's Lake State Park near Baraboo, Wisconsin. It is pretty early in the year, snow is still melting, and it still is fairly cold here, so there wasn't much green stuff growing yet, it is just barely starting.

I shot some, but mostly we hiked trails around both sides of the lake and checked out the landmarks that are in the park. It is fun to hike around, but as far as photography goes there isn't much 'remote' type stuff around the lake so its difficult to find places to shoot great landscapes where there aren't signs of people/human life in them.

    And on to the pics!

Saturday we arrived and hiked on the west side of the lake. This is a view from the southwest corner:

Then we set up camp (new tent):

Notice the snowpiles still around the campsites:

Saturday we started on the east woods trail:

Still snow in quite a few areas of trail:

The trail follows a cool stream with lots of little falls and trees and stuff. (usually this is not this full)

    Then the 2 biggest landmarks:

    Devil's doorway:

And balance rock - which is actually quite boring.

Overall, the park has lots of cool cliffs, crannies, crags, stuff to climb. As a climber it was hard to be here and not climb, but there really wasn't much of it going on yet and my wife isn't too into it, so we just enjoyed the hike.

Yup, we got to use all of them. Everything is pretty awesome.

I'm super impressed by the MSR Dragonfly backpack stove that we got. This thing cooks like a jet engine and barely needs any fuel at all.

Yeah. I don't know that I'll stray from white gas anytime soon, but its neat to know I can burn whatever I've got around. The thing seriously sounds like a jet though. A mini-jet, but a jet anyway.

yep. And the first few times with ours we inevitably spilled a little bit of fuel on setup, so that always adds to the fun...

Great little stove though. We bought ours ~10 years ago now and it still works great. I can only imagine how much better they are now. Do they still come with the super thick tin foil like surround? That's the one part that's a PITA to deal with. Especially after you've used it a bunch.

Yeah, it does, but I didn't bother with it. Usually I'd only mess with that if I was really trying to save fuel or in really windy conditions.

Usually when I'm out I use the stove next to a log, stump, rock, etc to keep wind off anyway.
