    Default  NC Outer Banks

Anything in particular I need to check out while I'm there? I'm heading to Raleigh Friday night to head out early morning with a buddy toward the Outer Banks, but I don't really have anything in mind.

Any suggestions on where to go exactly?

Depends on what part you're going to--they're pretty long, you know...

On my To Do List for the Outer Banks:
    Cape Hatteras and Lighthouse
Kill Devil Hills and Wright Brothers Museum
Shackleford and Ocracoke for general beauty and wild horses

Day trip from Raleigh, so we might make it down to Hatteras but I doubt we'd go as far as Ocracoke. Who knows though.... might go all the way down, take a ferry across, and meet up with a buddy that moved to Wilmington last year, since we're sort of in the area.

I've only been to the Outer Banks once, and that was a miserable trip where we didn't get any time to sightsee because our friend's girlfriend was a whiny twunt who always wanted to leave for some reason. We saw the Hatteras lighthouse, one other lighthouse, and the Lost Colony.

I'd like to see the Wright Brothers Museum for sure.

Yeah, I went sea kayaking in the Shackleford Banks area and that was so beautiful. I saw something there I'd never seen in NC beaches: clear water, i.e. almost chlorine pool clear. It was amazing. Plus the whole kayaking thing we got to paddle through a bunch of porpoises and over rays and sea turtles galore. It's definitely a beautiful area.

Jockey's Ridge is day-trip'able from Raleigh. Also, some good stuff to see in that area. Hit up Corolla for cooler wild horses and you can drive on the beach to the VA line. It's beautiful out there.

I actually just found out from Adam that he wants to head down toward Morehead City, New Bern, and Beaufort..... so we'll be down in that area, I suppose. That probably rules out Kill Devil Hills and the northern bits of the Outer Banks.

UGH! Srsly? I spent a lot of my childhood down around there, and except for Beaufort, there's not a lot down there.

I'm holding hope for New Bern. I'm a history geek, and since New Bern was the first capital of the state, I'm hoping there's SOMETHING interesting to it I want to convince him to ride up to Bath too, because of the history surrounding that little town... Blackbeard's retirement and all.

Yes, the dive boats leave out of beaufort and Morehead city I think. That and tiger sharks are are big draw to NC diving. Supposed to be about the best on the east coast.
