I will be there Sunday and/or Monday. I would like to get some waterfall shots. The kids will be with me so really long hikes are out of the question. But according to their site there should be some trails that get to waterfalls which are a mile or less. Is there anything else there I should look for. Or does anyone have recommendations of other cool things to look for there? An old cemetery would be awesome, or old run down structures.

Bobby, where did you end up staying down there? Hotel? Cabin Rental, or Camped? Looking at this summer, still kicking around accomodations.

We've stayed in a cabin and hotel. The trip I posted this for, was a hotel. The hotel was in Pigeon Forge off the main strip. Both were nice. I can get the name from the wife tonight. Make sure to check which weeks have the car shows and avoid them. The crowds/traffic are ludicris.

That'd be cool to have that info. Right now I am looking at a Cabin through Kimble Rentals for $95 a night which isn't bad. So I figure get a cabin rental and do mostly breakfast and dinner at the cabin, which should save a lot of money in eating out, and then the only thing else is gas money there and back, and whatever else we spend on. So 5-6 days should be about $600-650 for lodging. Hoping to do this trip for less than $2K. Now I just gotta figure out a date. But yeah I'll take any info you have Cabin or Hotel.

when I get home I'll ask the wife. She may remember the cabin too. And dude, you gotta go to Old Stone Mill for breakfast once. One order will feed 2 people, and they are totally cool about bringing it with 2 plates.

Looking at middle of Oct right now, for anyone that will be down that way at the same time, If you want dates of what I am thinking, shoot me a PM. I know it will be busy, but just like the rest of the leaf peeping a-holes, I have to be one too.

We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Pigeon Forge when we were last there. It is a nice, clean hotel with a pool and hot tub. Low rates, close to everything, walking distance to a go cart track. Gatlinburg is a 10-15 min drive. I know you can google pigeaon forge to find their main website and check for car show dates. I can't say enough to avoid those. Neither of us can remember the cabin company we stayed with. It was up in the mountains, very private, and had a hot tub, full kitchen, full size fridge, etc. But a lot of them are like that. You can go to the visitor center for the Smokey Mt. National Park and get advice and free maps to trails/waterfalls. Keep me posted on when you go. It is only 5 hours from my house.
