    Default  Mat Board

Since I should have my mat cutter fairly soon, I need to pick up some mat board before I head back to the mountains so I can play with it.

Ben (and others!), you mind giving me a rundown of what I need for a decent quality, standard white mat? I was looking on Jerry's site, but it was more confusing than I anticipated. Figured I'd just ask.

    Thanks.

    - Scott

Well I honestly don't know what specific mat I buy looking on the site...
    It's crescent brand:
    http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-su...es/online/2052
looking at that link, I go for any of these 4:
    http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-su.../0049001000000
    http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-su.../0046952000000
    http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-su.../0049002000000
    http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-su.../0042267000000

they have this on each page though:
Must Order a Minimum of 12 Mats Assorted!

I buy mine in the store though, so I can make sure I'm getting what I think is black/white... Names can be misleading. I could have swarm my white was "arctic" white, but they only have one white with black core (what I thought was arctic) so they either changed the name or I'm wrong... Anyway, I highly recommend the black core, even on white board because it adds a very striking "pop" to the images. I personally love black frame, white mat, black core as it's very snazzy looking but you (or your clients) might want something else.

    Then for foam core:
I'm sure it's on this list:
    http://www.jerrysartarama.com/discou...art-supplies/4
but I'm not sure which one. Make sure it says "archival"... that means: 1) You pay more. 2) it has better quality adhesives used to make it, so it won't stain your printed or gas the glass...

I use the thinest foam core they sell in the store, black w/ black core and the finish is "matte". I've never seen anything listed as archival that has a glossy finish, so that's my first gauge. I just prefer black because it's what's at the back of the frame, and it's a black frame, so it's nice to see all black when you flip the frame over. They make it in white too.

found the actual board I use (I think):

these are tempting, but I don't know how they'll hold up:

and yeah, I always go to the store, I've never ordered or even looked at this **** online, so those are my best guesses. If that is their entire inventory on the site, then I'd say that's what I get, but I'm not sure w/o seeing it. Matt I can go with you sometime here if you like. Scott, I could mail you a matted 4x6 or something if you want to see what I use IRL.
    I own this joint!

Holy hell, Ben... Thanks for the reply. Looks like a lot of the stuff is on sale too 2.99/sheet, wow... This will definitely be cheaper in the long run once i get it figured out.

Essentially, I just wanted to know what you get... I assumed there was just some standard mat board, but I'll definitely be going to the store and I would assume someone there can help me out too.

    Thanks for the info.

yeah, there will be vertical slots with each kind in there.
Basically you pick the color and you're set.
It's not that hard once you see it all.

Ah, thanks. I'm going to head over there in the morning to see what I can find. Might even buy some black mat board for kicks.
