    I trust all your judgement!

Ohh I am looking to do all types of photography. So anything goes!

If you're new, just get out and shoot with what you've got. The stuff is pretty good from the start.

I've got the same stuff you have, then I've got a 10-20mm ultra wide angle and a 70-200mm f/2.8 tele for sports/action stuff at a distance. You can go a thousand different directions with lenses but if the stuff you have isn't specifically holding you back just use it until you know it is. I think you'll know when it does hold you back and then you'll have a better idea of what you want to get to replace it or add to the collection.

Thank you for your advice..I just switched over from point and shoot and I guess I am just nervous about expanding my horizons!

Especially if you're just switching from P&S, get out and shoot a ton with the 40d and the lenses you have. Use the P mode to start on the dial, and try other stuff from there. The 28-135 is actually a pretty good range to do lots of stuff on the camera, and its a pretty decent lens to start off with.

Another tip to get started is to read as much as you can about all the settings/info on your camera (start with the manual, its pretty good). Then go take pics. Use the 50 f/1.8 and the Av setting - check out what the different aperatures do. Do the same with the Tv setting for shutter speed. Look how each affects the other (as you decrease shutter speed the aperature will stop down).

Exactly as thechickencow said, Take time and learn the camera before you go out and buy lots of stuff. Knowing how to use the camera and what each thing does will improve your photography better than any amount of money. The camera and lenses you have are perfect for learning. Play with them and if you need any help or have questions, just ask!

Learn the camera and find your limitations. Then worry about getting new lenses once you've found how the lenses you have limit you. If we just told you to go buy a telephoto lens to get you more reach, you may miss the fact that what you really want is a nice macro lens or wide angle zoom, etc. It's best to discover first hand what you're lacking.

I appreciate all your feedback..I am defiantly a hands on learner not a reader. I did read the manuel and many other books but not seeing what the result is then I dont comprehend it very well..

Do you recommend buying filters for the lens?
