    Default  Amazon.com it is?

To those of you that haven't seen my few posts yet, hi! This seems to be a nice little community, thank you BobbyT for inviting me over!

I've been hemming and hawing hardcore over this D-SLR thing since yesterday when I saw it was going for $589 on Dell.com (clicked the link for $319 somewhere, but by then it had already been shut down...). Don't get me wrong, I've wanted a D-SLR for a couple years now, but with the upcoming release of the XSi, I'm happy I've waited. This will be my first D-SLR, I'll be upgrading from my Kodak EasyShare C643, which is 6.1 MP.

So to get to my point:

Amazon.com has the Black (my preference ) Rebel XTi with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens AND Kingston 2 GB CompactFlash Card for $589.88. So I think I've finally decided, and pretty much just want a few "Go for it"s from people that know what they are doing (Assuming this is actually a good price -- which from my research thus far seems to be the case).

If you do buy through Amazon use the affiliate link on the new school of photography home page.
Affiliates $589 w/CF card seems like a good deal.

    Oh yeah, welcome to NSOP

    Uh, hmm...

There is a refurbished XTi listed on Amazon for $530. Has anyone dealt with refurbished D-SLR's before?

    But $50 for a new one.......Leaning towards new o.O;

I think that price sounds good for what you get unless you can hold off a bit and wait for another one of the screaming deals.

What is the body only price? I've got that lens for sale cheap.

    Welcome, by the way!

I was thinking if you could do body only in the 400's it'd be cheaper.

Does anyone else think that, if she waits a couple more weeks, she has a better chance of getting a good deal? As close as we are to the release of the XSi, it seems like better pricing on the XTi is just around the corner.

^Sure, but that's a couple more weeks without a camera... If it were me, that'd be a problem. You can always wait for prices to come down or the next best thing to come out, but if she really wants/needs the camera, there's not time like the present.

I was thinking the same thing, but I think It's just really hard to tell. Apparently the XT dropped $100 with the release of the XTi, but wasn't it first generation anyway?

It'll probably depend on the presales of the XSi....which are unknown to me atm.

I just really want one, lol. And have for a while.

*sigh* I suppose I should resign to the waiting game (Which I am absolutely horrible at, lol).

Well I understand not waiting for sure. Like I said in another post, I was going to jump on the Dell deal and missed it. Instead I went with a 40D. So not only did I not wait for a good deal, I spent a good bit more money. I'm happy with the choice I made. I was able to pay cash for the whole thing (year end bonus just came) and I got more camera.

And not to sound anti-social (okay, I am I guess.....haha).

This camera will get me outside more, I'm sure. It's sad that the weather itself doesn't do that...o.O

So I guess that's why I'm so ansy lately about it. I could just go out there with my P&S. Just doesn't sound as fun, lol.

My advice is the same as Mark's above... go ahead and get it. The sooner it's in your hands, the sooner you can start learning and playing with it. Prices will always go down if you wait a while, it's a never-ending cycle.

It's a great price for a great camera. Do it.

what i usually do to search for the best prices is visit popular reviewing sites like cnet.com resellerratings.com dpreview.com and epinions.com as they all have a SHOP option linked to their reviews of the gear, so you can see a variety of vendor's pricing, plus it's generally sortable from lowest to highest, ratings of the stores, etc.

Amazon is the lowest right now:

Amazon: $589.88 (Lens and 2 GB CF card Incl.)
    BuyDig: $514.99 (Body Only)
Dell.com: $499 (Body Only and Out of Stock)
B&H: Includes Tax, eff that, lol
    Ebay: Uhm, no?

So it looks like Amazon to me. I feel so though....I know I'll feel if the price drops $100 3 weeks from now. LOL

Who cares! Can you afford it? If so, go for it. Even if it DOES drop, you're paying a few bucks a day to learn how to use it early... that's totally worth it in my opinion.

Actually, you kinda sorta can. The way we have it setup here on NSOP is there has to be 5 characters. But quotes, and images count. So if you quote someone, that can be your entire post. It won't make much sense, but it will work...

    You'll also see "+1" a lot online. "+1" means "I agree".

Okay, this is going to sound especially stupid...but...

I can't find anywhere on the Amazon listing that it comes with the battery!

Can you? I'm assuming it does, because it seems every other package in the world does, but it would be just my luck that I get it and *POOF*....no battery -.-

I'm sure that it does. It looks like it is a retail package so it should have everything you need to get started except the CF card.

Which I'm getting for $9.99 (4 GB kingston)

I really hope so. I don't see why it wouldn't, but I am kinda angry it doesn't specifically say that it is the standard package with the list like everywhere else.

    Oh well.

    Okay.

Wow. You'd think I would run out of questions for this thread:

What is the main difference between the

    Kingston CF/4GB 4GB CompactFlash Card -- $29.95

    and the

    Kingston CF/4GB-S2 4GB Elite Pro CompactFlash Card 133x -- $39.95

I can get either with $19.99 off

One's got a faster write speed, which won't matter for your XTi, since the camera will be the speed-limiting factor. So get the cheaper one.

I'm in a bit late, but I never play the waiting game for a lower price. Just buy it, and enjoy it sooner.

And yeah, the speed of the CF card won't matter unless you're trying to do eleventy fps for a sustained amount of time. And, from experience, you'll be limited by your card reader on the transfer side of things.

Wasn't calling to order it, just confirming what I thought was included was in fact included

And asked about the refurbished one for $530. The gentleman said that I needed to talk to Canon about the warranty on it, and I'm not sure I want to risk it.

As much as I'd like to order tonight, Canon's message on the phone said they'd be open tomorrow morning at 8am Eastern time. If so, I'm going to talk to someone there about the refurbished one, see what kind of warranty they have on it. I'll order tomorrow.
