    Default  24-70 or 70-200 first.

    24-70 F2.8L
    70-200 F2.8L IS.

So I have these two decided, the problem is which one first. Ive been leaning towards the 70-200 since I dont have that gap filled right now. However I think I will get more immediate use out of the 24-70. I plan on having both with in the next 6 months, but am having a hard time deciding which one I want to play with first. I do alot of engagement and automotive shoots.

this will be my first L purchase, and Im sure will send me down a dark path.

tough choice... What other lenses do you have?
Both are good for engagement and auto shoots, so it all comes down to your style and specific requirements. Also what body is this for? Personally I use the 24~70mm a ton more than the 70~200mm, but it's all because I shoot mostly landscapes.
    I own this joint!

Well you have 3 lenses covering the 24~70mm range (albeit not as well) and nothing in the 135+ range.....

IMHO the 70~200 is a no brainer first with that list.

thats what I was thinking, although I rarely shoot above the 100mm range, or maybe thats because im limited in fstop/ focal length. I just dont want to get it and have it sit in the bag most of the time.

    Both!

...in a couple of weeks the new rebates should be out

...but yeah, the 70-200 would get my vote.

    Tough choice as I've said...

With the 17~40mm I have considered selling the 24~70mm, but I love that lens. It's never let me down, so it's a keeper until it collects a lot of dust (which it hasn't yet). Beyond that I don't use the 70~200mm all that often, but I "need" something in that range at times. For that reason I bought the Sigma as I need f/2.8, but 95% of the time IS won't help as I also need high shutter speeds... Panning cars is the only time IS would be nice for me... Maybe consider it as you'd be able to get both sooner.

I have 2 booked weddings for next year, so the f2.8 is a must and I think I might as well get the IS while im at it. Im also going to need a 3rd body at some point, Id love to go buy a new 5D, but I think I may default and pick up another 30D as they seem to be on the cheap with the launch of the 40D.

anyone have any experience with the older 28-70f2.8L? I had the opportunity to pick one up fairly cheap. What are your thoughts? I dont really care that much about the extra 4mm, I care more about sharpness and af.

the guys on FM seem to love it:
    http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/s...&cat=27&page=2

    how cheap?
If it really is an awesome deal you can buy it, test it, then either return it or resell it yourself. Personally I'd go for it.

Especially after you take your first pic wide open at f2.8 and check the DOF. You're going to love it.
